Measure of a Life

River City Mixed Chorus takes the stage with this moving, two-part concert, featuring Tyler’s Suite, followed by music to lift up and give hope to all facing adversity, bullying, and discrimination. Tyler’s Suite is a lauded nine-piece choral movement dedicated to the memory of Tyler Clementi, a talented young violinist who died by suicide after being bullied by his roommate during his first weeks of college. This powerful collection of songs will move audiences and singers alike, shining a light of hope for a safer, kinder world in line with the mission of the Tyler Clementi Foundation, working to end all forms of online and offline bullying in schools, workplaces, and faith communities.  

Composed in 2014 and created under the leadership of Composer Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Pippin) and Dr. Timothy Seelig (Conductor/Artistic Director of the San Francisco Gay Men’s Chorus), Tyler’s Suite highlights the talents of nine contemporary composers, including John Bucchino, Ann Hampton Callaway, Craig Carnelia, John Corigliano, Stephen Flaherty, Nolan Gasser, Jake Heggie, Lance Horne, and Stephen Schwartz—who, with librettists Pamela Stewart and Mark Adamo, put to music the voices and experiences of Tyler and his family. 

Tyler’s Suite will be followed by uplifting musical selections from across genres, building upon the beautiful, heartbreaking, and inspiring story of Tyler Clementi. RCMC continues “Standing for many. Singing as one,” with this one night only engagement that you won’t want to miss.
