This intergenerational arts class invites participants to explore how music, dance, and performance can be powerful tools for telling the story of the African American experience. Guided by teaching artists Lisa Jackson and Dierdre McKinley, participants learn the history and cultural significance behind various dance forms, practice the movement itself, and develop their own narratives or short scripts that bring these stories to life. The class culminates in a meaningful share-out performance where participants present their original work to family and friends.
Voices AMPLIFIED!
Voices AMPLIFIED! is a cultural engagement series that celebrates artists from diverse cultures and creates opportunities for discussion, reflection, and new experiences. Each season features a different community by pairing international and national touring artists with local artists and organizations for panel discussions, workshops, and other special events.
